Evangelism: A Team Game
Even if you’re not usually a fan, it’s been a fantastic summer of sport. We’ve seen some classic underdog triumphs and great examples of teams playing together – anyone else discover where Cape Verde is? And of course even the stars of individual sports like tennis aren't actually on their own, with a team of backroom staff and family to back them up.
What About Our Evangelism?
We know the value of teamwork from the world around us, but why do we often treat evangelism as basically a solo occupation?
We all know the keen Christians who seem to talk about their faith with ease: the person who drops in to see the nurse for a blood test and ends up leaving them with a Bible and an invite to church. And then there’s the rest of us.
Or we assume that evangelism is really the job of the church leader. We’ll pray for them, but let them get on with it (and the other 10,000 things on their to do list).
Working Together
Except it’s not really supposed to be like that. The New Testament passages on sharing our faith are almost all addressed to groups – whole churches, groups of disciples. Leaders are given to ‘equip the saints’ for the work, not just do it themselves.
We’re meant to be working together: praying for one another, helping and encouraging each other, bearing each other's disappointments and frustrations.
That’s why we’re working on a new project called Ready to Share.
How Ready To Share Can Help
By God’s grace, we want Ready to Share to help whole communities get involved in the work of scattering gospel seed. We want to give Christians a digital, step-by-step guide to introduce Look and The Word One to One into the everyday life of wherever they serve: their local church, Christian Union, workplace group, or other missional community.
As whole communities grow in confidence to share Jesus, we trust God to be powerfully at work, doing much more than we can ever ask or think.
